Boost Balm Rhassoul 600 Deep Cleansing Mask is made from Moroccan Lava Clay (Rhassoul Clay). Rhassoul comes from an Arabic word, "ghassoul/ghasala" meaning "washing". Rhassoul clay is probably one of the most perfect clay in the world because it is very famous in improving the appearance of both skin and hair. It comes originally brown in colour.

Rhassoul Clay is collected from the exact place where it is originally formed. It is where the subterranean clay layers have remained undisturbed since the Tertiary geological era which can only be found in the Atlas Mountains of Eastern Morocco. Do you know that there is known as Moroccan desert? It receives very low rainfall making the clay remains full of trace elements and minerals that enhance its activity.

You must be wonder how special is this Rhassoul Clay right? Actually, this clay brings a lot of fantastic properties, but let me just tell you on how amazing is it in beauty field. Rhassoul Clay in fact has an amazing adsorption property. Bear in your mind that it is different to absorption! Adsorption is a process where the atoms, ions or molecules of substances adhere to the surface of the adsorbent (the clay).

Differences between absorption and adsorption

By having a powerful negative electromagnetic charge, Rhassoul Clay is very effective in detoxifying our skin. Toxins such as sweat, sebum and dirt that lay under our skin's surface are positively charged, therefore it will be attracted and adsorbed out to the clay particle. In an easy words, Rhassoul Clay has a unique ability in drawing unwanted substances from beneath of our skin surface by sticking it to the clay particle surface and washed away when the clay is rinsed off. As a result, the pores are cleansed thus reducing blemishes and acne.

Now lets dive into the product. Rhassoul 600 Deep Cleansing Mask from Boost Balm is created to be as a 3 in 1 product that can either be used as cleanser, mask or scrub but I prefer to use it as a mask. Below are the ways that you can use it.

📍 How to use:

Add a little of Rhassoul 600 to your palms with water and make a paste. Use the guidelines below to get the best result for every use.
  • Cleanser
- Apply paste onto your skin and massage upwards for 30 seconds! Wash thoroughly.
  • Mask
- Apply paste onto your skin & let it dry for 10-15 minutes or until product dries. Wash thoroughly.
  • Scrub
- Apply a thicker paste onto your skin & scrub away! Wash thoroughly.

📍 Packaging:

The mask comes in a simple black plastic tub.

📍 Capacity:

Its capacity per bottle is 50g. Trial size with capacity of 10g is also available. If you wonder if its quantity is very small, let me tell you that I only need a pinch of it to cover my whole face. So, it can last for many months (*I mean when using it as mask 😁). It has been with me for 4 months and I have just used three quarters of the tub, so another quarter to go!

📍 Texture:

Its texture before mixing with water is kind of almost drying paste. When mixing, it kind of not easily get homogeneous plus it also does not easily stick to the skin surface. This will consume some times, so be patient okay! Oh yaa, it comes in black colour since it is formulated with Coconut charcoal as well.

📍 Scent:

For me, it has a minty earthy scent which is not very impressive but still acceptable.

📌 Review of Boost Balm Rhassoul 600 Deep Cleansing Mask

As one of my skin concerns is dehydrated skin, I would say that I am not a clay mask lover because clay mask tends to make my skin become more dehydrated. I will only use clay mask in gritting method, more precisely once in two weeks or sometimes once in a month hahaha. However with this Rhassoul clay mask, I seriously can go for gritting once a week!

This mask is really effective in adsorbing excess oil without leaving my skin tight feel and dehydrated at all although there is Coconut Activated Charcoal content, which is believed to be strong in adsorption. It is claimed that this charcoal is for antiseptic properties which is to absorb harmful microbes from inside of the skin and yes, I admit that when spotting this mask on acnes, acnes shrink out but slowly. However I was not disappointed for that as I can boost it up by using other acne spot treatment. Actually, there is also BHA content is this clay mask, Willow Bark Extract which is well-known in treating acne. However, as it is at the end of the ingredient list, it may comes with low quantity so as the concentration. That might be the reason of why this clay works very mildly on my skin in treating acne.

I somehow believe hydrating effect is also much helped by the content of fatty acids from three types of oils formulated in it (Sweet Almond oil, Lemon Peel oil, Rosemary Leaf oil). These oils may have helped in avoiding the clay from exaggeratedly absorbing the natural oil.

Last but not least, this clay mask contains Bamboo Stem extract which is known in keeping elastin & collagen remain vital. I do feel my skin is instantly smoother, softer and suppler but it is not so obvious. Instant brightening is definitely a yes as it is formulated with AHAs. I can see the brightening effect immediately after washing it off from my skin.

Overall, I like this clay mask both for acne spot treatment and gritting method because it does not leave my already dehydrated skin more dehydrated plus it give a cooling effect too while applying!

📌 Pros:

👍 Just a pinch of it is enough to cover the whole face for masking.
👍 Plastic pacakging, which does not easily broken when hitting hard objects.
👍 With price of RM89.90 for 50g and once application just need a pinch of it (for mask!), I think its price is affordable.
👍 Does not cause a tight feel and dehydrated skin.
👍 No acne breakouts.
👍 Instant brightening.

📌 Cons:

👎 It really take some times to get homogeneous when mixing with any fluid, I usually use apple cider vinegar. Be patient!
👎 It is not so easy to stick very well to the skin surface, very time consuming for the whole face coverage. Again, be patient!
👎 Black stain will mess you up if you are not going to be careful.
👎 A bit hard to wash, a bit time consuming to make sure it is proper washed.
👎 Unimpressive scent.
